I worked as a volunteer mentor for the Young Enterprise program a few years ago to help and support young students wanting to learn about running a business.
The program is free to students and offers them a really good opportunity to learn about business and all the different areas of a business they may not have known about.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
We believe in the power of ‘learning by doing’ and the difference that it has made and continues to make to the lives, futures and ambitions of young people..
We start off my asking the student to some up with business ideas they would like to explore, we discuss those business ideas then put them into action. There is presentation at the end where different Schools come together and win prizes for their work.
Offering your time
One of the reasons people start a business is to have the freedom to manage their own time.
Working in the evenings and weekends allows for free time during the week for community activities.
Summary
The Young Enterprise program is sponsored by many large organisations who recognise the importance of giving people from potentially disadvantaged backgrounds the tools and skills they need to succeed in a competitive business world.
