Frequently asked questions

Can’t find what you’re looking for?

If your business is called Blue Travel but bluetravel.co.uk has already been taken, have a look to see if the domain is being used or whether it is a parked domain i.e. is there an active website associated with this domain.

If the domain is not active then you can find an alternative. However, if bluetravel.co.uk is an active domain then it is not wise to compete with it by buying the same domain with a different gTLD i.e. bluetravel.uk

Try to identify a domain address that is not going to competing with another domain if possible.

TLD is short for Top Level Domain and refers to the end of the domain i.e. .co.uk or .com

Each country will have a country code that we can identify the country such as .fr and .de

A domain name can be a valuable asset that is traded for a profit, so you may find your preferred domain name may not be available.

If a domain is available it may not be suitable as may refer to something completely different to your business or project. There a few things to check before deciding on what domain name to purchase.

Uniqueness

Is your domain name unique enough and relevant to the business or project you are working on. Some words have two meanings, so make sure the domain you pick does not get confused with another completely different type of business. For example. https:///www.cherrytree.com would be a unique domain name for an Airbnb of that name, so if you are planning on starting a business called Cherry Tree selling t-shirts first make sure there is not a similar business with a similar name.

Keywords

It is good practice to add a keyword, if possible, to the domain i.e. Arctic Construction, New Forest Vets, Superior Cruises, Chloe and Lily Jewellery, Epic Graphic Design.

Keep it simple

Keep the domain name short and simple so people can remember and type the words in quickly to find your website.

Just because it is available, doesn’t mean it’s a good domain. Before you check a domain’s availability, first determine if the name is worth a domain check in the first place.

A domain name is the name we refer to as the website address i.e. https://www.domain_name.com or refereed to as the home address where the website can be found. When someone searches for your business they will be picking up the 'domain name' or adding the domain name directly into the search engine. Having a catch domain people will remember will be beneficial.

Google will find the domain i.e. the website when people search in the search box.  And if you type the domain name into your chosen browser, you should directly access that website.
