A domain name can be a valuable asset that is traded for a profit, so you may find your preferred domain name may not be available.

If a domain is available it may not be suitable as may refer to something completely different to your business or project. There a few things to check before deciding on what domain name to purchase.

Uniqueness

Is your domain name unique enough and relevant to the business or project you are working on. Some words have two meanings, so make sure the domain you pick does not get confused with another completely different type of business. For example. https:///www.cherrytree.com would be a unique domain name for an Airbnb of that name, so if you are planning on starting a business called Cherry Tree selling t-shirts first make sure there is not a similar business with a similar name.

Keywords

It is good practice to add a keyword, if possible, to the domain i.e. Arctic Construction, New Forest Vets, Superior Cruises, Chloe and Lily Jewellery, Epic Graphic Design.

Keep it simple

Keep the domain name short and simple so people can remember and type the words in quickly to find your website.

Just because it is available, doesn’t mean it’s a good domain. Before you check a domain’s availability, first determine if the name is worth a domain check in the first place.
